Vintage Bedroom Designs
Incorporating vintage items into your decor can add a distinct charm that’s hard to find in modern soft goods. A fantastic idea for bedroom decoration is to use vintage linens. These treasures from the past are not only charming but also readily available and reasonably priced.
Vintage sheets are a wonderful item to incorporate into your bedroom decor. Often, you can find luxurious, high-thread-count sheets that are gently used and much less expensive than new ones in stores. In my antique shop, I have several customers who regularly inquire about vintage sheets, so I’m always on the lookout for them. Although they’re among the most challenging items to find, it’s possible to discover them at auctions where a whole household’s goods are being sold. Frequently, you might find an old cedar chest or linen press filled with these fantastic old sheets, along with other delightful linens.
However, sheets are not the only vintage textiles that can be used to adorn your bedroom. You can also find some charming vintage bedspreads. Many families have preserved older bedspreads, especially those from the late 1800s, which were likely handcrafted by ancestors. These exquisite items are often hand-tatted, bringing a touch of lacy elegance to any room. Moreover, they can be acquired quite affordably, considering you are obtaining an item made with love and care. Another type of vintage bedspread that can infuse your bedroom with distinctive charm is the crocheted variety, available in numerous patterns. Typically crafted in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, the older ones are usually off-white or ecru. However, during the 1950s and 1960s, it became fashionable to create colorful granny square blankets, which can serve as vibrant, retro-style bedspreads for a unique bedroom décor concept.
One of my favorite types of bedspreads is the chenille bedspreads, which were very popular during the 1960s and 1970s. They come in various colors and styles, ranging from single-colored to multi-colored with intricate patterns. Some are white with delicate red roses, while others are vibrant, featuring a peacock in an array of colors. As a child, I owned a chenille bedspread adorned with a lovely pink and blue ballerina, a unique piece I’ve never encountered since.
But decorating with vintage linens doesn’t have to be confined to the bed, you can also use vintage doilies or bureau scarves to dress up your night tables and bureaus. These fabulous old linens come in a variety of themes and you can buy simple tatted ones with the design or get a beautiful embroidered piece that has flowers, or birds or pretty much anything you can think of on it. These go perfect in a romantic or Victorian-style bedroom and help to protect the surface of your bureau and nightstands to.
You can find vintage linens pretty easily in almost every town. Try shopping at antique shops as well as flea markets to get linens that ar perfect for your bedroom. Check your paper for local auctions to make a fun day of attention an estate auction where you’ll non only find vintage linens and other treasures to decorate your bedroom with.
